Sheep are incredibly difficult to draw! Here is a lovely pen and ink drawing by Lydia Corbett. I love the dream-like quality of this painting and the young woman in the background, in between the trees. Lydia painted herself as the young woman, even though she took up painting in the second half of her life, and she often painted herself with the pony tail in the style she had when she was a young woman.
It was that pony tail that caught the eye of Picasso all those years ago – and she became his muse for paintings and sculptures.
I had the joy of meeting her last year when she was showing her own work and it was amazing to hear of stories, Picasso’s art, and her own art.
The joy she gained from painting – which she still does, was inspiring; enough to encourage anyone to pick up those pencils and have a go!
