I came across this ancient church at the weekend. It dates from the 12th century and witnesses people’s faith in God over the centuries. That faith brought strength and courage to soldiers about to be deployed in WWII, who went there to pray- and who engraved their names on the walls.

It is a place of faith nestled inside a more ancient and nameless faith: the church is situated in the middle of some Neolithic rings- a Henge built around 2500 – 2000BCE. It seems to have been an important place for some kind of ritual.

And in the distance, at the other side of the church, on the edge of the circle, are two Yew trees, which symbolise eternal life and resurrection, which were bedecked with ribbons in memory of loved ones.

Faith, ancient and modern.
