This lovely sculpture by Elisabeth Frink is in the High Street in Winchester. It is raised higher than the pavement, which I think is a shame because people walk on by with hardly a second glance . It made me think about the positioning of sculptures and how important that is. A sculpture can transform a space into a social space where strangers interact with each other through the medium of the sculpture. Well, that’s the possibility. But if the sculpture is set apart, it often gets side-lined.
I do love this sculpture though, and you can get close up – unlike Molly the horse on the farm near me! Must pay attention at those horse whisperer lessons!
